Community of Practice Activities and Obligations

Project

During the period of participation,  each member of the Community will complete a project designed to support a goal of QU’s  Title III-funded Leadership in Learning program.   Projects are typically carried out individually, but certain cases may warrant joint projects.    Participants are always encouraged to assist one another and to seek opportunities to promote success of all projects.

In general projects must be completed by the end of the term, but extensions may be allowed upon demonstrated need.  No additional funding is provided for such extensions.

Community of Practice Meetings

All participants will meet monthly to discuss progress on their projects and other issues pertinent to teaching, advising, assessment, and instructional technology.    Participants will participate at least once each week in an online community maintained on QU’s Blackboard site.

Classroom Visits

Because one of the goals of the Leadership in Learning project involves enhanced diversity in approaches to teaching and learning, each faculty member will plan for a classroom visit by the director of learning and teaching.    At this time, students in the class will complete an inventory to assess their awareness of the use of diverse teaching styles in this particular course.

The visit is not evaluative and no impressions or data are transmitted to the VPAA or to the personnel files of the faculty member.    Data are shared in aggregate form as required  by the annual reporting system of the federal Title III-A program.

Reports

Each participant will provide a brief written report and will deliver a public report or demonstration at the conclusion of the project term.   In addition, participants may be called upon to provide written or oral status reports during the course of the project.

Advisory Status

All participants in the Community of Practice will remain on advisory status to assist in recruiting new participants, providing reasonable assistance to projects, and updating faculty members and administrators on the continuing impact of their projects.
